Happy Canada Day to all, and to our new members who are also new to Canada. Just an observation on how "international" C.O.R.E. has become - recent hikes I have been involved in have included new members and folks from all over the world who have come to this fabulous country.
We have new members from Russia, Scotland, England, France, China and Germany - There are probably more that I have missed from other hikes that have gone out so far this summer. It's great to see !

June 25th
The U of C rental price list has been updated as they have rebuilt their website. You can save it to your computer after you open it on the web site.
Some of us are going to camp over in Banff after the Boom Lake hike this Saturday, June 29th. Banff camping sites are a first come first serve type and can't be reserved.

Most of Kcountry is going to be open during G8 but remember that you need to check with the Barrier Lake Visitor Information Centre at (403) 673-3985 if your not sure. For toll free access within Alberta, dial 310-0000, then dial 403-673-3985.
Recommendation is to stay away from Highway 40 (Hwy1 side) altogether unless your coming in from the south end. South end seems to be wide open and so does the Elbow Falls/Little Elbow area as long as you don't go north and west. Check first.

Anyone interested in weekday hikes the week of June 10-14 call Terry.

While chatting with the Banff Park Info office, they advised me that they don't have the trail reports being published yet. What you see on our web site are the X-country ski trail reports and because there has been so much snow they have left those reports up longer than usual. They said that the hiking trail reports will begin being published in a week or so.

Well I think we can say that winter is over except if you have seen the amount of snow In Kcountry around Sawmill / Chester / Rummel you might think it was still on. Being spring means that our furry friends, da bears, are waking up this month and it's a good time to review bear safety. Please visit the web site link below and review your bear awareness. Click on "You Are in Bear Country"
April 6th, 2002
New members are encouraged to view the calendar of hikes to get a sense of what difficulty and distance are involved in some of our hikes. Our club has members of all ages and abilities. If any member has questions about difficulty or distance or equipment, they should contact any of the experienced members or club executive for their take on such matters.
The Weather and Trail report web page has been updated and a link to the G8 Security web site has been added as well.
A new section called "Links" lists some interesting web sites you should visit, please feel free to make your suggestions and have them added. One example listed there is a Parks Canada Fees for 2002.
Also a new "Special Event" page has been added as well for those events that require special communication between the coordinator and interested members. Make sure you send the details to Joe Bourque first to ensure that all considerations for a safe and fun event are covered off. Then it will get posted on our website.
Happy Trails !

Hi Gang!
To all those that couldn't make the curling funspiel on Saturday, you missed a lot of fun. We had a great turnout and I think everybody had a really good time despite the APB put out for the missing person!!!! Thanks to Ray for putting that event on. Maybe we can do that again???
Here's something different to try. One World Drum Company. Friday Feb. 22 8:00pm
The Open Drum is neat - just a bunch of people percussing like crazy. They start at 8pm (we'd have time for a quick bite first) in the S.W. It costs $10/person - $8 each if you bring someone - they play for 2 - 3 straight hours REALLY LOUD, eventually - people can watch, dance, drink water - but forget about talking.
Call Janet.

Anybody interested in participating in a cookie race? It is a X-country Ski race at Pocaterra, it is on Feb.. 23, there are 3 different distance to do and you can register as either a racer or as a tourer. I did it 2 years ago and had a lot of fun, the best part was all of the cookies (homemade!). If anybody is interested check out the web site at cookierace://x-c.com/foothills-xcski, maybe a group of us could go together.

Here's a perfect example of why we ask that hikers that get ahead wait at any intersection of trails or if they get too far ahead. You gotta wonder how this could happen on a 3km hike, but it did. Read On.....
