Coordinating a Hike

Activity ratings for cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, canoeing/kayaking, etc. are under development; in the meantime, please use Trip Rating as a guideline for these activities.

New Members
: Before a new member can coordinate an activity, they must contact CORE at mailbox@corehike.org  to review and understand what is required of them.  New members must have an experienced CORE member co-coordinate their first outdoor activity with them.

CORE will determine your ability and see if you understand what your duties are in being an activity coordinator for your next outing. Those duties include organizing and understanding the activity you want to do, the distance, geography and terrain, and being able to make sure you get the right people on your activity in the way of ability, equipment and preparedness.

Determining trail, weather and road conditions for the beginning and end of the day are very important part of a coordinator's duties as well.

The goal is to ensure that everyone is safe, which will enhance the enjoyment of the event. The coordinator is responsible for making sure everyone gets in and out and finishes the hike, and is also responsible for making sure the safety of all hikers comes first -- remember, Safety First!

Download the Coordinator's Guidelines and become familiar with the content. You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader.
