Upcoming Meetings:
PAST MEETINGS:
Inspired by their 2005/2006 Trans-African Cape Town to Cairo crossing in their Landcruiser, Tom Feuchtwanger and Janet Wilson drove from Cape Town to the Congo via the West Coast in fall of 2007. Come and hear their account of visiting Zimbabwe, NW Namibia, war-torn Angola and the Congo. Very few visitors have passed through these territories. What they experienced was both shocking and inspiring. Tom and Janet spoke to CORE last year about their first African journey. They had amazing stories, photos and videos. Don't miss their second presentation on March 27th.

Humanitarian Work in Asia - Slideshow &
Presentation
Presentation by
Lori
Trieu, who traveled to Asia last year to work
with an organization
called Clear Path International
Lori's one-hour presentation and slideshow will showcase the work of Clear Path International (CPI), an organization working with landmine victims in Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos. This presentation will explore and detail the involvement of NGOs (non-governmental organizations) helping in the largest and most populous continent on the planet. Asia contains more than 60% of the world's population, and at least 10% of the people in each of its countries live with some kind of disability. These individuals often live in extreme poverty, without access to education, health care services, or gainful employment.
Thurs. Nov. 30 - 7 p.m.
Potluck/Trip Planning Get-together at the old Firehall
Come on down to the old firehall (1111 Memorial Dr. NW,
2nd floor) on Nov. 30. We're having a pre-Christmas
social event that will include a Potluck Dinner and a
major Trip Planning Session. The purpose of the evening
is to have fun, meet new people, and try to put some
trips on CORE's schedule for the coming months. Bring an
appetizer, entree or dessert for the potluck. Please
keep in mind that there is only one microwave at the
firehall (no stove or oven) for warming up food. Also
bring your great ideas for winter trips (i.e. X-country
skiing, snowshoeing or downhill skiing).
We need your help!! CORE needs more members to get involved and contribute to the trips being done by the club (not just the 10-12 members who coordinate most of the trips). With a membership of over 125, we should be able to have a lot more trips on our schedule. Learn more about how to coordinate trips or co-coordinate with another person at the Nov. 30 Potluck and Trip Planning Night!
Attention All CORE Members! Here's your chance to share some of your most amazing photos from hiking, biking, scrambling, backpacking, or canoeing trips done during 2006. Or you can bring photos from other outdoor adventures you have experienced this summer. You will show your photos to the group using a digital project and tell us your stories associated with the photos. Audience participation is encouraged, e.g., comments and questions. The format will be fairly informal and, hopefully, fun. Email Harvey if you’d like to present a “mini-slideshow” at the October meeting. The pics must be digital images (JPEGS) on a CD or DVD. Notebook PC and speakers will be provided by Mark P. The maximum number of participants for the evening will be 10, so be sure to register as soon as possible. No more than 10 minutes will be set aside for each “slideshow,” deadline to register is October 23. Harv will moderate the proceedings and will try to keep things moving along smoothly.
